F40PH-2 Locomotive Training

At the request of our customer, HPI recently facilitated a training for new equipment and preventive maintenance on an F40PH-2 fleet, a fleet for which HPI is currently performing a major overhaul. The training took place at our customer’s locomotive shop, focusing on operation and maintenance of its newly upgraded EMD 16-645E3B prime mover, its new Head End Power sequential fan controller, newly installed FRA camera system, and critical maintenance intervals (Daily, 92, 184, and 368-day), incorporating OEM recommended practices as well as HPI’s developed procedures for implementation.

The preventive maintenance training instructions aimed to provide average recommendations which ensure satisfactory, long-term locomotive operations for the customer. These instructions can be changed or modified by the maintenance provider to fit their type of service, intended to serve as a guide to establishing a maintenance schedule and help with the planning of the long-term health of the locomotive fleet.

A major point of emphasis within this training was the critical importance of the recording of data in order to gather “history” of locomotive and subsystem/component performance. This historic data provides guidance for condition-based maintenance, improved diagnostic capabilities, informed decision-  making, and extended life of the equipment.

With locomotive service at the heart of our business, we’re passionate about preventive maintenance and we’d love to discuss the benefits with you. If extending the life of your locomotive assets or training of operations or maintenance personnel is your goal, contact HPI to learn more about our service offerings!
